There are a many privately run English courses available nationwide although these can often be very expensive and not necessarily better than those offered by state run courses. There are two main types of English courses for non-English speakers, available in Colleges, Universities and Libraries throughout the country. These are ESOL (a course designed for UK residents) and EFL (for visiting students). In addition, there are several websites which offer free English lessons for speakers of other languages.
