    Default Thai Passport Renewal

    Hi everyone,

My Wifes passport runs out in January 2011, we are going to Thailand at the end of October 2010 for 5 weeks, do you forsee any problems leaving the UK or entering Thailand with the current passport? Some people say, including the Thai embassy that she would not be allowed to enter because she needs to have 6mth left, which seems as odd considering she is 'returning home'. The airline forsee no problems and the Thai consulate said there should be no problems so i am confused as to why the Thai embassy say the opposite.

Anyway, we will be renewing it whilst in Thailand (if we get there) and she will be getting her name changed from the Maiden name to my surname, any ideas how long this takes?

    Thanks
    Lee

Quite simply the Embassy are wrong, your wife will have no problems travelling to Thailand.

This is crazy. If her passport expired 6 months, or even 6 years ago, she would still be able to return home.

She would not be able to travel to any other country but provided she can prove she is thai, which is what a thai passport expired or not does, she will not have any problem

    Thanks for replying you two.

Thats cleared that up for me, i thought it was strange myself but, when the Embassy tells you she cant go back thats when you worry.

Hopefully, it will all be ok and we can enjoy our 5 weeks away in paradise
