Windows XP and Thai Language Support

Special "Thai Editions" of Windows 95, 98 and ME were previously released to facilitate the Thai language. Whilst many aspects of Thai language could be setup and supported using non-Thai Editions of Windows, full functionality and 100% compatibility with all Thai software has only become available globally with the release of Windows XP.
Follow this guide to set up your copy of Windows XP to fully support Thai fonts, Thai software and (optionally) a Thai-English keyboard:
- Press

- Select

- Double-click

- The Regional and Language Options window will appear:
- Select Languages from the tab selections at the top of the window.
- Place a
in the box headed Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai), then click Apply.
- Follow the instructions given to install the files.
Return to the Regional and Language Options window and do the following:
- Select Advanced from the tab selections at the top of the window. Advanced options will then be displayed:
- Under Language for non-Unicode programs ...
Select Thai from the list of languages.
- Under Code page conversion tables ...
Scroll through the list and make sure a is next to each Thai listing.
- Click Apply.
- Follow any instructions given and restart your computer if prompted.
Your computer can now display Thai fonts and run programs designed for Thai Editions of Windows.
To set up a Thai keyboard, return to the Regional and Language Options window and do the following:
- Select Languages from the tab selections at the top of the window:
- Under the heading Text services and input languages click Details....
- The Text services and input languages window will then appear.
- Under the heading Installed Services click Add ....
- The Add Input languages window will then appear:
- Select Thai from the Input language list.
- Select Thai Kedmanee (non-ShiftLock) from the Keyboard layout/IME list.
IMPORTANT: To check the layout you have selected above is correct, click either Thai Kedmanee or Thai Pattachote to view the layout for each type.
- Click OK.
- Back in the Text services and Input languages window, optionally set your preferences for Default input language, Language Bar... and Key Settings....
- Click OK.
Job done! Windows XP and your keyboard should both now be fully functional in both Thai and English.
You may need to follow further instructions for displaying Thai fonts in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.
